Much like baseball cards, cigarette cards were issued by tobacco manufacturers in China during the 1920s~1950s to promote cigarette brands. Subject matters ranged from beautiful women, Western curios, Peking opera, etc. One favorite theme was the “360 trades”, which is an expression used to mean all trades. This particular cigarette card depicts a cotton fluffing shop. In China the cotton used to fill all beddings were fluffed by a bow like instrument to make them extra soft and comfortable.
